Mission
Fil-Am CAG was established in 1991
The Filipino American Community Action Group’s mission shall be to provide educational activities
that will increase civic, economic growth, social issue resolutions, political activity and active involvement of
Filipino Americans of Hampton Roads through advocacy, partnership and collaboration so that we may
achieve recognition, equality, visibility, respect, empowerment and protection under the Constitution of the
United States of America.
History
Fil-Am CAG was established as a community-oriented organization in 1991 due to the worsening situation of our Filipino American
youth gang problems with more than 30 gang groups fighting with each other in a daily basis including several fights in schoo l grounds
and drive-by shootings. Local papers, TV and radio stations plastered their news about all these fights and graffiti all over the place. It is
a non-profit community-issue oriented and political, non-partisan organization as we work together with our local, state and national political
leaders, judges, school administrators, local and state law enforcement agencies. The organization works closely with other cultural
ethnic communities on common issues affecting our Fil-.Am community. Its primary function is to educate and to seek solutions on
community and politically related issues. Our activities bring forth visibility, respect and empowerment to the community. An affiliate
of the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA) under the Capital Region Two since 1998.
