Our Story

More than a community.
A movement, since 1991.

From a kitchen-table conversation at Wing’s Restaurant to a Hampton Roads-wide community institution — our story is built on civic action, intergenerational leadership, and pride in Filipino American identity.

Our Mission

Educate. Organize. Empower.

Fil-Am CAG is a nonpartisan, nonprofit community organization serving Filipino Americans in Hampton Roads, Virginia. Our work is grounded in the educational, civic and intergenerational mission set out in Article II of our bylaws.

Article II — Mission

“To provide educational activities to increase civic, economic growth, intergenerational development, social issue resolutions, political activity and active involvement of Filipino Americans living in Hampton Roads, Virginia.”

Founded 1989

A kitchen-table beginning

In the summer of 1989, three community leaders met at Wing’s Restaurant on S. Military Highway in Chesapeake, VA to organize the Filipino American community of Hampton Roads. Two years later, in 1991, Fil-Am CAG was formally established.
